Michael Meihls
Candidate for Katy City Council Ward B
A steady voice for responsible growth.
Meet Michael
Michael Meihls is a longtime Katy homeowner, small business owner, and community leader who believes local government works best when it listens to residents, plans responsibly, and protects the neighborhoods that make Katy strong.
Professional Leadership & Experience
Born and raised in Wapakoneta, Ohio, Michael attended Defiance College before building a career in manufacturing and production management. Over more than 20 years, he led teams, managed budgets, and solved complex operational challenges — experience that required accountability, efficiency, and disciplined decision-making.
After relocating to Katy in 2016, Michael witnessed firsthand how rapid growth and major events like the Tax Day Floods directly impact families and neighborhoods. That experience strengthened his commitment to responsible planning and proactive leadership at the local level.
Business Ownership & Fiscal Responsibility
In 2017, Michael launched his own business, transitioning to it full-time three years ago. As a small business owner, he understands firsthand how city policies, infrastructure, and taxation affect both families and employers.
He believes taxpayer dollars should be managed carefully, city services delivered efficiently, and long-term growth planned with intention — not reaction.
Community Service & Local Leadership
For the past nine years, Michael has served on his neighborhood HOA Board, including seven years as President. In that role, he has worked directly with residents to manage budgets responsibly, improve infrastructure, and address safety concerns — always focused on protecting property values and quality of life.
Michael and his wife are also State of Texas licensed foster parents, a role they have held for three years, caring for multiple foster children under the age of five. That experience has deepened his appreciation for service, patience, and advocating for those who cannot always speak for themselves.
He has also volunteered with numerous local organizations, including the Houston Food Bank, Katy Rice Harvest Festival, and several community-based nonprofits. Whether in his neighborhood, church, or broader community, Michael believes leadership begins with service.
Michael is running for Katy City Council, Ward B to bring steady leadership, practical experience, and responsible growth planning to every decision — protecting what makes Katy strong while preparing thoughtfully for the growth ahead.
Why I Serve
Katy isn’t just where I live, it’s where my family’s future is being built.
When my family first moved here in 2016, our community experienced the Tax Day Floods. That moment made it clear how deeply local decisions affect neighborhoods, infrastructure, and the safety of our families. Growth brings opportunity, but without careful planning, it can also bring strain.
Through my service on our HOA board, running a small business, and fostering young children, I’ve seen firsthand the importance of steady leadership, responsible budgeting, and thoughtful long-term planning.
I believe local government works best when leaders are present, accountable, and focused on protecting neighborhoods while managing growth wisely.
I’m running for Katy City Council to ensure our city continues to grow with intention; protecting what makes Katy strong while planning responsibly for the future.
